The Lend Thy Hand group was initiated on 17th July 2017, on U Tirot Sing day, under the esteemed guidance of Swami Achyuteshananda ji Maharaj. The team consists of members from diverse backgrounds, lending a unique and inclusive character to the group. Since its inception, the team has undertaken various commendable initiatives, such as organizing Medical camps, distributing blankets to the needy during winter, conducting Cleaning drives, assisting students in paying their school fees, providing rations to families in need, and aiding disadvantaged individuals in accessing different Government schemes.

The Mission continuously supports the group's endeavors, with a significant portion of the funding being provided by the Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong.

To extend their services and cater to a larger audience, the group seeks additional support. This collaboration could enable them to conduct their activities on a grander scale, effectively assisting more people in need.

Activities conducted in 2022-2023

1. Health Camp and Awareness Programme 

On 5th November 2022, a successful Health Camp and Awareness Programme was organized in Ribhoi, Village Lumshyiap, with the primary objectives of providing general health check-ups, dental check-ups, and assessments of clinical parameters like teeth, blood pressure, and blood sugar. Additionally, the camp aimed to distribute free medicines and offer proper advice on chronic ailments. Special attention was given to children below 2 years, who received food supplements during the event.

The camp, which ran from 10:45 am to 4:00 pm, saw a remarkable turnout with a total of 120 patients availing the health services. The medical team of doctors diligently diagnosed all the patients and prescribed the required medicines, which were distributed free of cost from the medicines van.
Furthermore, 17 children below 2 years were provided with much-needed food supplements, ensuring their nutritional needs were addressed. The event concluded on a positive note, with smiling faces in the community, showcasing the tangible impact it had on the attendees.
This health camp proved to be a significant success in spreading health awareness among the community members. It offered support to individuals who lacked financial resources to afford medical check-ups and medicines. The event was a growth experience for all participants, providing gratifying opportunities to help the less fortunate.

The response and appreciation received from the community were overwhelmingly positive and encouraging. This not only brought a sense of fulfillment but also strengthened the belief in the objectives of such initiatives. The success of this camp motivates the organizers to continue conducting similar health awareness camps in the present and the future.

2. Cleaning Drive 
On 15th October 2022, the Lend Thy Hand team from Ramakrishna Mission embarked on a commendable cleaning drive, covering several areas in the vicinity. The targeted locations for the cleanliness initiative included Quinton Road, Jail Road, and the road leading to Polo. The team members demonstrated their dedication and enthusiasm by actively participating in the entire cleaning process.

Armed with brooms and garbage bags, each member of the team wholeheartedly engaged in the task of tidying up every nook and corner of the designated roads. The collective effort showcased the power of teamwork and its potential to bring about positive change in the community.

Throughout the drive, the team experienced a profound sense of inspiration and motivation. They realized the value of hands-on involvement in any endeavor and how a personal touch can significantly enhance the outcome of a task. This cleaning drive not only contributed to the beautification of the roads but also instilled a deep sense of pride and responsibility in the team members.

3. Blanket distribution

Ramakrishna Mission (RKM), Shillong, through its “Lend Thy Hand” group conducted a winter relief work on December 30 at Jhalupara and Mawlai Umshing-Mawkynroh, where 160 blankets were distributed to the beneficiaries. The winter relief work was conducted to support poverty-stricken people to survive even in the harsher winters.  

4. Support of payment of School fee for students
Few Students from underprevileged section of the society were provided with the school fees for 2022-23.  The members from Lend Thy Hand group visited the homes of the needy, prepared sufficient documentation and paid the school fees by visiting the schools.

Lend Thy Hand  is celebrating a significant milestone as we mark 8 years of dedicated efforts in supporting the needy in as well as out  of Shillong . Through the unwavering commitment and generosity of our team members, particularly [Khlosphina -searched the needy family , Pinky -Donated 28Kg rice], have successfully donated rice to those most in need throughout this period. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported us in this journey, and we remain steadfast in our resolve to continue making a positive impact in our community.
